Ok, windows xp say my key isn't a real key. I do have a real key I know works
but now that windows don't like the key that's in it is there any way to replace
the key that's in it with the key I know is a good key?
Or do I have to reformat and start over again?

Call Microsoft, and they'll get it sorted out for you.

Did you change anything in the machine? No new hardware/software?

Just call MS.... It is not valid because the install ID now does not match.

The install ID is generated by using codes on the mobo, vid card, hdd, etc and then creating this long string of characters.
Your key is then linked to this Install ID. Your ID is now different, because of the mobo change.

Click the activation link in Windows, call the phone number listed, and punch in the code that is generated.. it will give you a new code back and you will be good to go.

So I have to call MS to fix this and they will give me the code?

Are you getting the "Windows is not activated" popup in the system tray (by the clock)?
