I'm not surprised about the judge's interpretation of the DMCA. The problem is with the DMCA, itself. I don't think the judiciary is going to rescue us on this one, Congress will have to.
Yep, completely agree. Her ruling follows the letter of the law, but damned if the letter isn't completely inane.
Even its major proponent, none other than John McCain, ran afoul of the bill when he five-fingered some music for an advertisement during his presidential campaign. I am continually amazed that we have laws in effect that not even their creators can follow.
We have talked about this on other copyright laws, but ultimately the only thing it does is makes it difficult for the law abiding user to enjoy his content the way he wants.
These laws and copy protection technology's do absolutely nothing to stop piracy.
