Good Antivirus,malware, you name it.

Okay, so, I was wondering if someone (preferrably more than one, since it's not a please help me troubleshoot this program kind of question) could answer my simple question:

Which is better at overall protection for windows XP, Avast, or Trend Micro?
Or even better, what would you say is the most effective antivirus/malware/spyware/everything-else protection program that you can think of?

I used Avast, it's gotten me though everything, even a nasty Vundo infection.

    Avast! and good browsing habits.

In the most recent tests, only one antivirus solution fared better than Avast, and it was Eset's NOD32, a paid solution. Even then, neither of them got much better than 50% at detecting and fixing infections.

Personally I like Avira. Also Malwarebytes Anti Malware is amazing for fixing any problems that you do have

Avast is the most second most effective AV solution (second to NOD32), and the best free solution.

The other competitors aren't even really close.

Alright that's pretty much what I thought, I just needed confirmation. Also, this brings up a new question for me:

Will having both Trend Micro Internet Security and Avast software both installed on my computer at the same time cause incompatibility problems (possibly causing my PC to be LESS secure than it was with just one)?

Perhaps not less secure, but certainly a whole hell of a lot more slow. If your computer sits behind a router, it's best just to use the router and Avast!, then ditch Trend.
