ACPI Error
Before the other machines hard-drive died, it was having issues of freezing up (strangely not linked to the drive).
On Login and some other times it would just freeze for a while without an obvious reason. After checking the system logs, I noticed this in there -
And consequently a few seconds later there was another error but with READ instead of WRITE.
Changing the PC to "Standard PC" in device manager from "ACPI Machine" seemed to fix this, but it lost basic functions such as being able to turn itself off, etc.
Any idea what would actually be causing these errors as it used to be fine. No hardware changes or driver changes have been done, so I can rule those out.

Just installed Windows XP Pro on an AMD Duron 800 - 256Ram, 40 gig..and getting the same errors messages in the Events Viewer. Everything just freezes and I cannot do a Ctrl-Alt-Del . I have to hard shut down the computer. It does it 15 times a day.. What should I do to correct this issue??
I've had it happen more it seems trying to use images made with ghost or DI instead of doing a fresh install. Sometimes a repair XP fixes it. But thats also required at times even after a bios upgrade to really fix the problem also.
