i7-975 to 4.2, but...

edited September 2009 in Hardware
I have this 975 that is showing 4.22 in BIOS, but only showing 3.911 in Win 7 and Vista (3dMark 06), any ideas on why this would be? Do I trust the OS or the BIOS, lol...

Vista calculates CPU speed by what it detects as the "maximum" FSB and CPU multiplier for your setup. For example, my motherboard reports a maximum FSB speed of 400MHz and my CPU uses an 8x multiplier, so Vista reports that my CPU speed is 3.2GHz, even though the stock speed is actually 8x333=2.66GHz, and the actual speed is 8x433=3.46GHz. As Thrax says, CPU-Z is the best way to see what the board is actually doing when running your OS.
