I know AMD is saving some money keeping both GPU's on one PCB but there's no way it's that much. I think maybe there's a little price gouging for the 5870 or the 5870x2 at $600 is too good to be true.
I'm not 100% sure either way, but some folks online are saying that this may be in Aussie dollars (apparently the source of the leak).

Even at $299 the 5850 might make great sense if its driving into GTX 285 performance territory while improving on power draw and thermal output. Some unconfirmed pic leaks have shown that level of the board with a dual slot solution sporting only a single six pin power connector, looking very similar to the 4770's reference design cooler.
Now I'm in love with Radeon graphics, but the $400-$600 range becomes difficult for most of us to justify, they would have to be something truly extraordinary. I can't wait until the 10th to find out!
If I had to guess I would say the cards are going to come out at $250, $350, and $600-650. Anything below $250 for the HD 4850 and $600 for the 5870x2 seems really low. I find it highly unlikely the HD 5870 will be less than $100 more than the HD 5850.
I have upgraded from X1950XT to HD4850 about one year ago. I guess, I will be waiting for 6xxx or 7xxx series. But for the ones who have not upgraded to a 4xxx or GT200 card already, these cards will be very attractive. I read that ID Tech 5 engine will still be DX9 based when it is released with games like Rage, Doom4, etc. It sounds to me that DX11 is not a big deal. Am I missing something?
You raise a good point. What will it do to drive down HD4XXX series products? If you are on a tight budget and its been two years since your last upgrade getting a 4870 on clearance for under $100 could be a very exciting prospect.
I was dead set on crossfireing my current card, now I might just wait to see what happens. I wonder if it will be possible to crossfire x the 5XXX cards with the 4XXX cards? If so, will it support DX 11? Will it be chocked by the slower card?
Well, the prices might be hard for many to stomach when the cards first hit the shelf, but as Cliff_Forster mentioned that it will most likely drive the price on the 4xxx cards down to cope for the 5xxx series being so high. And come to think of it, I would prefer to crossfire 2 or 3 4870's for the price of one 5870 since I currently am using a RADEON 4870.

DX11 will catch on over time, but the problem is that the games you are talking about are either in production or nearing their release at which point it would be too much work for the developers to start over or go in and reinnovate their game engines to support DX11. Also it would ruin release hype umong fans who are expecting the games to arrive on the pre specified release dates since the games under refitting would definitly be delayed for a while. But give it time, it hasn't even come out yet.
