Sounds like run of the mill registry corruption.

What you want to do is boot from your windows CD and run the recovery console to repair the installation (repair, not restore).

Do you have your installation disk?

yes i do have but i have never done it with vista, so im abit afraid that i will ruin everthing.

Closer watch on the msg gives me different msg every time.. security, default, and software.

Insert the Windows Vista DVD and boot from it.

    STEP ONE:
    Click repair your computer...

    windows-vista-startup-repair-4.jpg

    STEP TWO:
    Select "startup repair."

    SystemRecoveryOptions.png

Given that your system reports a different registry piece every time (security, default, software, etc.) I'd say there's a pretty decent chance your Windows install is beyond recovery, however.

If the startup repair fails, we can recover your data, but you'll have to reinstall.

looking thorugh my house right now for the CD:confused2

and about the second part, well it tries to do that all the time by itself but it doesnt work. if u press F8 before start i also get that choose "repair" i also get that window without the CD in it, but i also have another option in the end called "recovery manager" where i can copy my files and stuff but i have no ide where the get copy to...

    "EDIT"

Ah thank good for COMPAQ, it seems like onl compaq have that "Recovery" and im transfering everything i want to a CD...

Make sure your bios is set to boot from disk as priority and put in your instalation media.

Is it a Microsoft typical installation disk, or is an OEM disk of some kind, like a restore disk from Dell or compaq?

Either way, just load the media, it wont automatically make any destructive changes, if you don't understand what to do, list the available options here and I can walk you through it. You want to repair your installation, nor restore, or reinstall it. There are even better options by going into the recovery command prompt and trying to repair the system boot, but first I have to know, what kind of computer, what kind of installation media do you have?

Cliff: As a note, Windows Vista cannot perform a repair install unless the OS can be loaded. If startup repair doesn't work, you have to reformat. Yes, it's dumb as shit.

Do you have an OEM system with a recovery partition? Is there some kind of bios prompt that tells you to press a function key to get to the repair console?

What is your systems make and model?

Duh, forgot we were talkin Vista, I'm repairing XP installs all the time (It seems like a 2nd job sometimes) XP won't boot, I say, whats new, give it to me...

The Vista, & 7 startup repair manager seems to work itself out more often than not, guess not on this one.
