How to change router "N" setting to "G" setting?

edited September 2009 in Hardware
Have a Dell Wireless 1397 802.11g Half Mini-Card
purchased a Linksys WRT160N router.

Internet is SUPER SLOW even when the laptop is right next to the router.

Checked w/ ISP, who say things are fine on their end.

Any suggestions? If I need to ensure my router is operating on "G" and not only "N" setting, how do I go about changing this?

Many thanks.

802.11n devices are automatically configured to operate with 11g and 11b devices. if you can connect to the router, then it is in the correct mode. Can you go to speedtest.net and post a picture of the results it gives you? The site will test your bandwith. I wanna see what's going on with your connection.
