I had the spy.ursnif virus a while ago, and I had the problem fixed (by the people here) but ever since, windows has not installed any updates for anything, all of the updates just fail, help?

<hr>for all I know the problem might be another virus...

Do you have a WinXP CD available to you?

    no, I do not

(also, the ursnif is gone, so I don't need help with Ursnif viruses..)

Alright, maybe this question will pan out: Do you have a folder on your C: drive by the name of "i386"?

yes, it is named i_386 though (same thing, right?)

Also I just virus scanned and came up clear, but you never know..

Okay, go to start, hit run, then type this: sfc /scannow -- then hit enter. The utility will ask you to locate your Windows XP CD at one time or another; point it to i_386 when it does. After that's done, restart your PC and try updating again.

What error are you given when the update process fails?

Try manually downloading SP3 from windows and installing it that way. Assuming nothing else is wrong that should fix it.
