interrupt automatic booting?

edited October 2009 in Science & Tech
We just switched to comcast (bundled services). Lost phone service briefly Friday and computer screen went blank at the same time. Comcast no help thus far. Mouse is not working (even through numeric keypad). Think I should interrupt the automatic booting process but unsure how to proceed. We use Windows XP (Professional if that makes a difference).
System is 5 years old, so no warranty at this point.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I'm a little lost. Is the screen still blank? And if so, how do you know the mouse isn't working? Have you tried another monitor/screen? What happens when you reboot? Do you hear normal hard drive boot up noise but get no video?
