Total Annihilation

Let it be known here today that drasnor laid the ultimate pwn upon khan in a me (Core) vs. khan (Arm) vs. 1 AI (Arm) game of Total Annihilation.

I don't have the exact score, since khan logged out before the game ended, but let it be known that my forces sustained one casualty, an Advanced Moho Mine in the process of being built, hit by one of khan's fighters.

Khan, on the other hand, sustained a complete loss of his base as one of my two Karganeths walked up to the front door of his base, blasted through two rows of Dragon's Teeth and three rows of East-West Bertha Shelters before completely fragging everything. :Pwned:

The AI suffered a similar fate from my other Karganeth. :Pwned:

The map was Core Prime Industrial Area. The mod was Total Annihilation Units Compilation Pack. The annihilation was total.

I could install this again, but using the ub3r units is sometimes lame especially since the AI never uses them effectively. If a game is gonna happen let me know!

well the original TA AI was lame anyway. the unit pack includes some improved AI, which are especially vicious

"Mostly Harmless" uses nukes, does flash tank rushes, and generally pwnz if you don't have some serious base defense in the first 5 minutes. On the hard setting, it uses cheats.

Yeah, my Battle Tactics CD is floating around here somewhere. It has lots of maps.

I need to take more screenies, TA easily has as much eye candy as Warcraft 3.

My favorite TA quirk is the way it handles resources. Games like Warcraft and Starcraft have a finite amount of resources that you accumulate and then spend; in TA you produce resource production facilities like power plants and metal mines that produce metal and energy at a certain rate depending on the "level" of the structure. Simultaneously, you "nanolathe" units exhausting resources at a rate equal to the strength of the build unit's nanolathe. Your commander and advanced build units have "big" nanolathes that can lay down metal and energy at a higher rate than low-level build units. As long as you're producing resources at a greater rate than you consume them, you're fine. If you consume more, it drains your reserve capacity until you hit zero, then your output is matched to your production (build units sit and wait for resources to become available, then use them). If you are producing more than you consume, you either replenish your reserves or it falls into the category of "Excess resources", which don't accumulate. You can raise your reserve by building storage units, OR you could just build more power plants and mines ;)

On most maps, you need to place metal mines over metal veins to get any production to speak of. On metal maps (ever read Prelude to Foundation? Trantor.) it really doesn't matter where you put the metal mines, since the surface of the planet is all metal (e.g. Core Prime Industrial Area).

"Mostly Harmless" only uses nukes if it is set above Easy and Standard Version. It needs to be set to Std or Hard for it to use them. ALL the AI other than "Standard Version" use cheats. Easy uses a little and builds faster, Std uses more and builds nukes and Super Mechs faster and Hard cheats a lot, builds nukes very fast and can build super mechs stupidly fast.

Karganeths and such pretty much ruin the game as they are damn near invincible, though with the tactics I normally use against 5 AI, I normally end up with about 60 losses and 3000+ kills (I play Arm and don't normally use Super Mechs and I don't do rushing).

    Hi

I know this is kinda late and all but if u still use this forum and like playing total annhilation you should check out http://www.tafansite.com/index.php?page=unitshop if you havnt already.

good web site, some of the unit packs are very unbalanced and if downloading single units alot of them were created extremely unbalenced so care wich ones u get...

and if ya dont like that here is a web site that has a heap of links to other ta websites.... http://www.unitedcommand.com/new.php?thecatno=39
