I am not even attempting to know all of the AMD CPU models anymore. So many core variations, even the same model CPU can have different cores (e.g. with L3 disabled or physically removed). It may not matter to the average consumer, but an enthusiast overclocker needs to know and follow. It is getting difficult.
Considering I have the original Athlon X2 equivalent of the X2 240e I can say that they are definitely not too slow. I would LOVE to have an HTPC built with one. Heck, my computer is still a competent gaming box for my needs at least.
The Athlon II X2 and X4 are outstanding HTPC chips when combined with a 785G motherboard that has HDMI. Seriously... I've seen it with my own eyes, and I was really impressed.
