The second .pdf makes good reading! and I wouldn't mind one of these to replace my tired old Highpoint 370..
... and NO drivers required. Aha!
SyncRAIDTMTD6405 Controller
The TD6405 SyncRAID controller chip is completely compatible with off-the-shelf dual channel IDE controllers found in everyday PC motherboards, allowing a full parity protected striped array of disks to use the existing built in drivers shipped with every Windows® XP or 2000 based machine without modification. The RAID array(s) simply appear as a regular, single, large protected disk drive to the operating system. Linux, Apple Mac OS X and other IDE aware operating systems are easily supported via simple adaptation of existing system IDE class drivers.
The TD6405 is designed for use in either 32 or 64 bit PCI host bus adapter, PC motherboard or embedded PCI configurations that require IDE controller compatibility and zero host software impact to support full striped parity arrays of off-the-shelf ATA and SATA disk drives.

Toms Hardware did a review of one at the end of last year. It's got some nice figures.
