Upgrading CPU on MS-7184 (AmethystM) motherboard - HELP!

edited November 2009 in Hardware
Hi,

I have a MS-7184 (AmethystM) motherboard on an HP Pavlion desktop machine. It currently runs a Sempron 3000+ processor. I want to upgrade to AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Processor. Is this possible? On the specsheet sheet here:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00378480&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=1839474&lang=en

It says 'Supports AMD Athlon 64 X2 (up to 4800+) and Sempron (up to 3200+) processors'

So, can I not go higher than 4800+?

Please can someone confirm this. My budgets are tight and I do not want to change PC at this stage but I need more processing power due to video editing apps.

Any help highly appreciated. Please give me an idea of what max processor I can use without any problems.

Normally you would be able to go look at the motherboard's BIOS updates and see what CPU support was added and when, but that can't be done in this case. To be on the safe side, I would definitely suggest sticking with a maximum of the 4800+.
