i have just flashed it, and played some games, works fine so far.

    Re-friggin-markable ...I think some guys are flashing their 9800Pro's as well but I need to read it again. Great news thanks for the heads-up there leishi.

    Leishi, did you flash with the xt128mb.rom? I did and got artifacts, so I had to flash back to the original Pro bin. Dissapointing. I was certain this would work because I ran at 412/365 for a couple of hours last night - no problems. I was sure this would work. I'm gonna go reread the article, maybe theres a newer, more compatable bios available...

    can you reflash it to the old bios if it doesnt work?

    Yes you can as long as you save your old bios first or know where its available for download.

    i could imagine there would be some cons in flashing.... what r the main spec differences between the teo (ie ram type etc)

    Now yet again I ask; Should I buy a 8900 Pro NOW and mod it to an XT, or should I wait till spring, when Doom3/HL2 is released...

    The "how-to" I posted above sez I need a 9800Np or Pro capable of 412MHz core clock and 365MHz (730MHz DDR) memory clock which are the engine and memory clocks for the 9800XT. I've got a stock 9800NP and the ATi site sez the engine and memory clocks for the 9800NP are 325/580. I've never OC'd anything. Can my card do this?

    no one will be able to tell you, even if they have the same exact video from teh same manufacture, with the same revision number and everything, because OC involves a lot of stuff, there are just too much variables.
    u have to try it youself.

    about my comment about buying the card now or later, maybe you should buy it now, HL2 is delayed till sep of 2004 now, screw HL2, i don't even care for it anymore.

    Thanks, leishi85. I'm not really interested in frying a perfectly good 9800NP. I can wait to upgrade the card. I'll be getting a new machine toward the end of the year. By then, the PCI Express cards will be around.

    don't know if it's reliable, but there is a report in warp2search, but i believe there will be a delay, looks how they delayed the game last year??

    Sounds about right to me. Unless you are desperate to play Halo on the PC, I wouldn't bother with a new card till the big games come out (Doom3 for now it seems).

    I, too, considered flashing my 9800pro, but I was discouraged by the horror stories on those feedback pages. Leishi, which bios are you using?

    For those of you who are ballsy enough to give this a shot, you may want to have any older video card handy. Restoring the older bios would be a piece of cake, provided that you get any sort of output from your monitor in order to do so.
