Do I need to re-reinstall windows?

edited November 2009 in Science & Tech
Okay so I don't have any sound, and the past week I've been searching for a way to fix it. The windows disks I have that came with this computer refused to re-install the drivers. And even the internet wouldn't do it. I have a dell, I have no idea what year, its my moms boyfriend's, he's letting me borrow it. Well while I had it I got a virus had to reinstall windows, and this has happened to me before with my gateway, but never to this extent.
Now I have USB speakers, so its just a plug and go type thing, but the sound card/driver or w/e isn't working, and my computer seems to not reconize this. When I used to go to add hardwear, there used to be 2 sound thingies that needed to be installed, but for some reason my computer just like deleted them completely.. help?

    Hello Friends.
I read your entire post you did not need the reinstall it just repair it and first check which file is missing and find it.

First of all go to the Dell website and using the site map find the "Driver Download" section. Once you do this you need to enter in the details of your PC to get access to the correct drivers. This is the best way to go as it will have all the drivers you need to get the computer back up to scratch. You will probably need more than just the sound drivers if you have done a clean install.

If no luck there - please download a program called Astra32 (just google "Download Astra32") and run the program once installed. This program will tell us exactly what sound card or onboard chip your PC is using. Once you have this information we can go get the drivers you need.
