I got on my computer this morning (Windows XP Home), and the address bar was gone! Needless to say, this will get in the way of internet searches! I have to type in addresses manually like I'm searching for them and then click on them. What happened? How can I get the address bar back? I looked around in the computer and tried several things but couldn't find it.

In IE, go to View > Toolbars > Address Bar , and make sure that it is checked.

Yes, it was checked. I did a System Restore and got it back. Half the time these automatic updates from Microsoft do more harm than good anymore.

ditch IE, go with mozilla firebird. it's faster, better, cleaner, does more, and M$'s updates can't do anything to it.

Some spyware/elseware may have had something to do with it, you may want to run spybot S&D for ****s & giggles.

It's possible that they bar got accidentally dragged and moved up to another part of the menu bars. Look for a drag handle somewhere, or part of the word Address, and see if you can drag it back open.
