Radeon 9800 vmods

Here they are. All pictures courtesy of Lasse. He's the man when it comes to this stuff.

Get a cable from the ribbon ata cable. (i suggest paint them so you know which is ground)
Get 2X10K, 22 turn VR pots. Set them on full resistance to start with (close to 10k).

Solder a wire on 2 of the pins of the VR (top and middle pin so that you increase voltage or decreasing resistance when turning clockwise, middle is to ground, cut the lower one off)

Then take the other end of the cable and put it around the leg of the IC on the Radeon and twin it together. It's small but doable with useful tools of your choice. Glue the pots on a place of your choice.

That's it, then just turn the pots clockwise to increase voltage but be careful, don't increase to much at the time and use good cooling and sinks on the memory (pref with a fan blowing across the board as well)

If you don't know how to use a multimeter, don't do this.

First is the Vgpu mod, pin 3 of the IC is ground but you can choose another place if you like.

    Nice

As soon as I get the 10K VRs, find out what GPU cooler will fit on this AIW, and sand these BGA RAMSinks.. I'll have some fun

Thanks for the pictures Lasse, and thanks Mackanz for posting.

What kind of voltages will this allow?

Fascinating stuff. I haven't a clue about what it is you're doing.. but it is interesting. I'm the type of guy who can watch Discovery Channels "How It Was Made" for hours..
