Broadcom tpm error

edited December 2009 in Science & Tech
Good Morning,
i have read a couple of posts concerning restoring tpm platform.
I tried the links posted by dpknauss on 10/22/08.
When I went into set up, the TPM security was 'off' and set it to 'on'.
However, the instrustions said to reboot and "activate" under'TPM activation.
i got a message as follows 'to make changes, boot, load TPM driver, reenter setup, set TPM to on, vendor activate the TPM and reenter set-up"

I tried to run the 'repair' on the TPM under add/remove programs and that failed.
My questions are
1. if i uninstall the software, is it completely gone from the computer?
i am afraid to remove it because i can't find where the source files are. they are not on the resource CD that came with the computer, Dell D610.
2. what does 'vendor activate' mean? Contact Dell or Broadcom?

The other courses of action suggested on this site was to try to identify which drivers are conflicting by checking the 'add/remove' program list, but i didn't see any entries that appeared to be drivers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Normally when you uninstall a driver the files are still on your hard drive. In some cases when you suspect corruption in the driver files, or when you don't want it to reinstall on reboot, you need to hunt down the files and delete them. Might be a good idea in your case.

The driver is easy. Go to Dell's support site under the D610 and it's under the chipset section for Broadcom TPM.

Not sure what the vendor activation is. I've never had to do that with any Dell driver.
