If your looking to get a sweet Proto Drake (310% flying speed) than look no further than Ulduar 10m Hard Mode. All the fights in general have been majorly nurfed to a point... If you can muster the guys & gals to get past Fire Fighter the instance will be yours. As One Light in The Darkness is a joke.

We'll see how a group that hasn't encountered raid content together does, gear and the tuning the devs have done will make it easier than it was when the content was released, sure - but I wouldn't get too cocksure about it this early in the game.

The Phoenix mount from Tempest Keep pwns ANY drake.

I have one. On a private server. Cost me a whole 100 gold!

Yup but the feeling of getting an Iron Bound Proto drake after months of grinding hard modes is worth more than a Phoenix drake or 100 gold.

GTFO with your private illegal crap...

You cheated your way to one of the most venerated mounts in the game. You're so pro.

Oh, poor Tim. I bet you're kicking yourself in the ass for saying anything at all.

No, not at all. One of the more annoying things in WoW is that people only want to do the newest hottest instances. When Ulduar came out, the guild my 80 Holy Pally healer was in only wanted to do one thing - go in Ulduar and wipe and wipe and wipe and wipe and wipe and wipe over and over and over again. 100+ gold repair bills got very old very fast.

What about Naxx? We'd been doing Naxx a lot, I was becoming one of the better healers in the guild, etc. It all went out the window. Ulduar is here, Naxx is old news! Everyone in the guild was saying that.

Now try to imagine getting a group together for a level 70 instance - Tempest Keep, to get a shot at the Phoenix mount. It was difficult to get 15-20 people for that, THEN it was difficult to have at least some of those people know the fight, THEN it was difficult to have people not leave before the instance was over.

And all the while there 1 or 2 people constantly whispering me to take the loot off Master Loot. After all I went through to get a group for a Phoenix run? Sorry, it ain't gonna happen! Then I'd have to kick those 1-2 people before they messed everything up for me.

THEN we'd get in there and kill the end boss, and.... it didn't drop. Again, no Phoenix.

So I went online, found a list of private servers, found out how to copy and modify one small file in the WoW folders to redirect me to the private server, logged in, went to the building in the middle of Shattrath, and dropped 100 gold on my new Phoenix mount!

    That was much easier.

It's not cheating, it's a private server. Cheating would be hacking / modding something on a real realm server.

It isn't an accomplishment on a private tho. Wow is all about rankings and acheivements.

TL;DR: I'm greedy and my guild was bad at hard instances.

Thrax - what does tl;dr mean?

I may not have gotten my Phoenix the conventional way, but I certainly spent enough time trying, and putting in the effort to warrant having one, and coaxing other players to join us for a TK run, or "we're already here, don't leave till it's finished", etc.

I don't spend any time thinking about how I didn't really win a drop to get mine, I just fly around on it, at 310% speed, with the yellow and orange and red and purple flame trails / streams going all over the place....... the end justifies the means.

I'm on the Eternal server. Eternal-wow.com . YOU, yes, YOU can go there and get your own Phoenix and enjoy it and not tell anyone here so they don't think less of you for it! :vimp:

    Too Long; Didn't Read.

The game is created with different tiers of difficulty for a reason. When you play on a server that eliminates those tiers and makes everything in the game accessible to any player what is the point of the game? You can QQ all day long about not being able to get a group together to even try for the mount, but you can't equate yourself to people who actually achieved it on a legit server.

For a guy whose hardware questions for the last 7 years have revolved around "how well does it play WoW," I thought you'd respect the integrity of the game more.

    Guess I was wrong.

I've only been playing WoW for 3-1/4 years.

Integrity is a good thing... up to a point.

When it appears that the chances of obtaining a Phoenix mount the correct way are slim to none, I can take the easy way out and get one on a private server.

I shall laugh when Blizzard shuts down your free server & you lose your precious mount.
