linux disk will not boot up

i have an older windows xp pc....i can't get it to boot up with a good linux bootable disk...i have cd as first boot ...it seems the only disk that will boot is xp....when i put the linux disk in ...it says boot from cd but it just boots from the hd

    How did you burn the disk? When you put the disk in while running Windows, do you actually see a bunch of files or just one .iso file on the disk? Sounds to me like the CD wasn't burned properly.
