Yeah Nintnedo, Mario Bros. the movie sucked. It was a mistake, it could have destroyed your brand forever. But this fan film is proof that now is the time to take a chance and get back into the movie making biz. Zelda is so ripe for a big budget film, it must be done, and if Nintendo is smart about it, they will hire some of the fan filmmakers to see the vision through, to keep it pure for the audience that really loves that franchise.

I loved the Super Mario Bros. film, Cliff. Don't destroy my childhood like that.
Cliff, I don't know what you're talking about. I fully enjoyed the Super Mario Bros movie. It's a movie that you have to learn how to enjoy. Yes, it's not like the game or even the tv cartoon series. Get over the fact that there's no super powerups, or warp pipes, of evil suns chasing the Bros. What you DO get, however, is a comedy-oriented early 90's sci-fi/fantasy movie. It's kind of like the Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within movie: yes, it's sad it's not closer to the game series, but it still made for a nice sci-fi movie on its own.
Besides. They had John Leguizamo as Luigi Mario. How much more can you ask for?
I somewhat agree with Cliff on the fact that SMB was a HORRIBLE movie. However, in my opinion it's so horrible it looped back around into unintentionally hilarious. Thus, both sides of this argument have merit.
Had a chance to watch this film with friends. Downloaded a torrent of it that give it a cleaner feel than the DailyMotion stream.
I'll put my thoughts below into a "spoiler" tag in case you don't want to accidentally be swayed by my thoughts of the movie, or see some plot points (though by now, if you haven't ever played Zelda: Ocarina of Time and yet want to watch the movie... hmmm...)
Overall I felt the best describing word for this movie is... "meh, it was alright". It's not bad, but I didn't find it to be great either.
Like any film adaptation, they exercised some creative license. That is perfectly fine, and in fact I invite it. Most of my complaints will not be from changes in characters and story. For example, I appreciated they used a Hawaiian-looking man as a "Goron" rather than making a cheesy CGI character or a potentially botched attempt at a costume for a large rock-man. Or, Saria's motherly tendencies that I don't at all remember from the game. These are fine, and bring a bit of "freshness" to the movie.
One thing that did bother me, was some of the technical parts of the movie. For one, the camera angles and the cuts made me queasy. Some of them just didn't make sense to me, and seemed disjointed. Lynx may have a better way of describing it, but to me they just seemed very... amateur.
Also, the film had an overwhelmingly large amount of dialogue scenes. Adventure and fights were sprinkled in, but there was just too much melodramatic talking about hero-this and woe-is-our-kingdom that. The pace just wasn't very exciting for such a action-oriented game.
Oh, and I must have a little fanboy moment. What they did well: costumes, characters were fairly accurate, and the humorous shopkeeper scene was amazing ("you got a bow!"). What they missed that I really wanted was Link using a "light arrow" to defeat Gannon (pig-form) and him performing his characteristic "spin slash" at least once. Nope,
neither.
As for the climatic final confrontation between Link and Gannondorf, I was left wanting more. Why did they fight in the middle of a field? Why not in the center of a castle? It just didn't make any sense to me, and ruined any sort of belief that the battle was important.
But after all these rants, it was still a neat tale. The costumes were well-made, their use of CGI was appropriate (though it did reek of low-budget at times), the acting was decent enough (Link wasn't annoying, etc), and Gannondorf was nice enough to make me like him as a villain. Plus I enjoyed the musical score and sound effects.
Considering the budget and their target audience, I give it a 6/10. I enjoyed it overall, but the story and technical presentation really could have used some re-thinking.
And that's my crazy thoughts/review on Hero of Time.
Bandrik, do they have an official torrent or is it just something someone ripped off of Daily Motion?
No official torrent that I know of. There is a torrent of the Daily Motion .flv capture, which I also got. The one I picked up was a 648MB or so .avi file that someone put together. It's not the best quality and had some keyframing issues, but it was leagues better than the highly compressed Daily Motion version.

Oh no you didn't!
Dude, Dennis Hopper.....
...was AWESOME.
I mean, Bob Hoskins you guys.
I'm sorry, Cliff. It is your geek card that hangs in the balance here, not Ms. Baynes'.
