Win XP Pro - Stuck in Reboot Loop
Would appreciate any assistance with my issue. I am running Win XP Pro SP3 on an AMD processor.
I found a bunch of malware on my system this morning. Symantec had found some infections, and then I found more trojans with spybot. After trying to clean everything up (deleting files, and removing bad startup / boot entries) I booted my machine. The malware appeared to be gone, but the machine was slow and would lock up (explorer). I also received an error that there was a problem with one of my .dll files.
Realizing I may have deleted an OS file during my surgery, I attempted a Windows REPAIR. New OS files were copied from my OS CD to the HD, and upon reboot, my computer was in a reboot loop. I tried another repair with the same results. Fortunately, I have access to this laptop to do research. I found the article on this site (8x Cmds) and have even tried deleting my boot.ini file, and then rebuilding with bootcfg, and then applying the fixboot command. Still no luck. All my hardware was working fine this morning, so I don't suspect it is the culprit.
10 hours have been spent on the issue now and I am pretty frustrated. I'm ready to format C: and do a fresh install, but I do not want to lose my files. I am considering going back in through the Recovery Console to get a command line and try to copy them (my files) to another drive, but that could be very time consuming.
Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks - J.

I also pulled the iso for Dr. Web Live Image and made a bootable CD. Memory Test and Scan were good.
