Deus Ex. It's old, but crap, it's difficult to find a better game.

if you're looking for free, check out abandonia. Sure, the games are ancient, but hey, free is free.

You need to get your kid brother started on the old stuff. I'm talkin' Commander Keen. King's Quest. Games from back in the day when men were men! And WOMEN were men!

Dude, load him up with cheap games from the Steam sale. I just got four games, covering two christmas gifts, for under $15 TOTAL.

Old school C&C or even Alpha Centauri! Mech Commander is actually a free game now for download and so is the original Tribes games which probably still has a following online....iirc.

Tribes 2 is free now too, RWB. And it has been patched to connect to non-publisher servers. :D

Oh man, I'm gonna back Lynx 190% on this and say BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL for $5 is a MUST BUY. You cannot understand the magnitude of how awesome the game is until you have played it and cried like Lynx and I did at E3 2009 when they failed to announce BG&E2... FAIL.

I have so much nostalgia for Alpha Centauri... I'd also recommend Heroes of Might and Magic: III complete... don't mess with the IV or V versions that are all new and shiny - they have some nice new features and more highly rendered 3d graphics, but I think that is messes up the parsimony that III had.

FreeCiv and FreeCol are both quite good, especially for nostalgia factor. I've probably clocked five or six hundred hours on FEAR Combat if the computer will run it and he enjoys a good FPS multiplayer online. You might set him up a few SSB's with good web games like Bloonz and Quake Live. If he wants to get really hard-core there's always Dwarf Fortress too. Maybe D&D Online, Age of Conan (at the moment) or Free Realms
