Can anyone tell me how to back up my BIOS on a Dell 2.4, 1G ram, I try to keep all I can as a back up and this is one thing I dont have, Thank you for all your help.
Even if you cound do this easily, you really don't need to. If your BIOS ever gets nucked for some reason, you can always just do a jumper-reset, and everything will be fun again.
If it gets so nucked that you can't even do that, then a 'back-up' wouldn't help either, ya?

What is and how do you do a JUMPER-RESET, I am not looking to do this as long as I know I dont need a back up of my bios but I always like to learn more so thats why I ask, again thank you for all the info.
The jumper is usually near the lower right portion of the motherboard... ALWAYS YANK THE POWER CORD BEFORE DOING ANYTHING INSIDE. But I can only say that for most motherboards that I have at home. As for Dell's... after opening the lovely Clam Case, the jumper can be anywhere. I have a few Dell's sitting right hear...
Optiplex GX-240... Jumper is.... I can't find it?? Hmmmm... Yank the battery out for an hour and that should clear it? The CMOS battery is in the middle of the board and there are two, 2 post jumpers but neither is marked CMOS or BIOS... Not sure... Darn, and I claim to know Dell.... Oh well, no Dell..
Dimension 8300... Jumper is in the lower right corner next to the mini PC speaker. Three post and the jumper in on the right 2. Move it over one so the left 2 are jumpered.
I like the new Dell BIOS's. I have flashed over 40 Dell machines without a failure. NO Problems...
When you pull a BIOS battery be careful you dont snap the little piece of metal that holds it in otherwise its a re-solder job on your hand (or a piece of sellotape, which ever is closer )

A Jumper-reset is just what it sounds like. Every motherboard has a jumper point somewhere that you can use to reset the CMOS/BIOS.
Or you could just take out the battery...

IIRC most if not all jumper switches are next or close to the battery.
SM19's motherboard does not have a jumper. The manufacturer actually touts this as a benefit. But that is the only motherboard that I have ever seen without one.
Ya, I figured I needed something extra on the avatar... don't want people to confuse my avatar with anyone elses... not that anyone else has a knight anyway, but ya never know...
