eMachines

edited December 2009 in Hardware
Hello,
New to the site (don't even know if i'll be able to find the reply to this, but here i go.....)

I am involved with www.worldcommunitygrid.org , a distributed computing site involved with furthering medical science in areas such as AIDS, Muscular Dystrophy, and Cancer.
I have collected a number of 533/633Mhz emachines which crunch adequately for my efforts. With the addition of the 5th emachine, i am seeing the elec.power bill slowly rise, and am trying to eliminate the HD's by using a bootable Ubuntu Flash Drive. All the eMachines have a USB port, but i cannot get the BIOS to look at the USB for the boot sequence. The flash drive works completely in my more modern PC towers.
Question is:
Can i boot off the Flash ?? Will an update in bios give me access to USB boot? If so, where do i find it. and, of course, any other bits/bytes that might aid me in making these mobo's functional with USB boot.
Thanks for your help...and Happy New Year to everyone.
Respectfully,
JR (jreader61@hotmail.com)
