.NET Framework updates will not install / possible redirect

edited January 2010 in Science & Tech
I originally came here to fix a Google redirect virus, and chiaz did a great job of helping me. (thanks again, chiaz!)

However, I have another issue that I think might be related. For some reason, around the time I got the virus, my windows updates no longer install, specifically 4 updates based on the .NET Framework. I read that some Google redirects can prevent you from downloading automatic updates, and I was wondering if my issues might be related.

Thanks very much for your help!

Try manually downlaoding the updates and installing them that way, not by going through the windows update service.

go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/default.aspx put in the downloads you want and look for them.

I was able to download the 1.1 Framework, but not the others:

Update to .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 for the .NET Framework Assistant 1.0 x86 (KB963707)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP (KB974417)

I also tried downloading Web Platform Installer 3.1, but did not have luck.

Is it that you can't download them or you can't install them once they are downloaded?

    Regardless.

    Go to start>run>cmd
at the prompt make do the command: sfc /scannow
That will go through your core system files and check for damage.
Then try doing the updates again.
If that doesn't work we are going to go through the process of re-registering all your dll's but before I send those instructions let me know if the sfc /scannow worked.

Oh and before I forget what operating system are you running?
