My RAID 0 setup

I now have two 120GB drives set up in RAID 0 on IDE 4 (master/slave) on the HPT372 on my KD7-RAID.

I had just one 120GB Maxtor 7200RPM 8MB ATA133 hard drive for a while, and then decided to get another drive for more storage space. About a week after installing the drive, I decided to set up RAID 0. Since I had 168GB stored across the two drives, I backed up what I could (about 65GB or so) and then set up RAID 0.

Now, all I have to do is redownload what I have left of the 90GB I couldn't backup. This should take around 15-20 days

If I max out my network bandwidth (1Mbps cable) I can download 429MB an hour, 9GB a day, 56GB a week, or 242.67GB a month, so this won't take long. (its all just fansubbed anime)

I know its not a good idea, it slows the drives down (ATTO score was ~65MB/s max). I can't do it any other way because all my IDE channels are being used ATM

    Config:
    TDK 4x DVD+R/RW burner IDE 1 master
    Lite-On 16x DVD-ROM IDE 1 slave
Panasonic LS-120 superdisk drive IDE 2 master
    Maxtor 60GB 7200RPM ATA133 IDE 3 master
    Maxtor 120GB 7200RPM ATA133 8MB cache IDE 4 master
    Maxtor 120GB 7200RPM ATA133 8MB cache IDE 4 slave

You could just get a PCI Controller Card like this and everything could them be a master ans well as being able to set up your array correctly. (even an AFC could afford one of these. ;) ) I hope you don't do much "burning on the fly" with your DVD and burner on the same channel also.

You could always move the 60gb drive from IDE 3 to IDE 2 master and set the LS-120 to IDE 2 slave? It's not like you actually access the LS-120 very often and I assume that its for backing up your data so you do it in an off peek time. Then you can move the 2 120's to be Master IDE 3 and 4. I highly doubt that you would notice any performance hit by moving the LS120 to slave off something...

    Just an observation,

The 60GB drive is the C: drive, so I guess I could put it on IDE 1 master and the LS-120 as slave, move the DVD-ROM and DVD+RW to IDE 2.

Would I have to rebuild my array if I moved the 120GB drives as master on IDE 3 and 4?
