blue screen during crossword puzzles

edited January 2010 in Hardware
I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 with windows xp. It will shut down while doing crossword puzzles. Sometimes after hours, other times after a few minutes. I get the dreaded blue screen, but it starts right back up after I turn of the power for a few moments. Any suggestions?

Next time it happens, you should copy down some of the information from the nasty blue screen - it usually indicates why you're getting the crash. ESPECIALLY if you're getting the same BSOD every time.

    It'll say something like...

A problem has been detected blah blah blah...

    DRIVER_IRQ2_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Something like that anyway.. So you'll need that information.

Then you'll need the part that tells you what kind of driver issue (if it's a driver, it could be memory or something error too.. ). I'tll read something like..

    ABCD.SYS Address H12341AB base at E0000000, DateStamp 40b070b2

If you post both of those messages, it'll be a lot easier for someone to help you diagnose it.

In the mean time, a few things you could 'try' are uninstalling and reinstalling things like your Java applet or Flash (since I'm guessing the Crossword puzzle place you use uses one of those two formats). Java from http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp Flash from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ Make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card - doubtful, but won't hurt either.

    Good luck!
