Lost processor Ghz in attempted Repair

edited January 2010 in Science & Tech
Hi!

I was unable to boot Windows properly probably caused by bootvirus or such and I used your guide "Repairing Windows XP in Eight Commands". It worked though it unfortunately didn't solve my problem. I got another Windows XP option but still couldn't start. I noticed aswell that my processors Ghz had dropped from 2,7 to 1,5 (I have never clocked my CPU) and then I removed everything on my harddrive and reinstalled windows. I thought that maybe the different two operating systems somehow shared the CPU power and that now with only one operating system existed I would get the Ghz back. But well I didn't and now I have a single OS and everything should be at default but i still only got half the processor power. Please help!

Likely a bios setting has gotten mixed up along the way. Go into your bios and reset it to defaults.

Yeah, check the bus speed and processor multiplier in the BIOS. They may have reset to smaller values.

Also, it could be that your processor runs at a slower multiplier when there's low load. Are you sure it's running at 1.5Ghz all the time? What kind of processor are you running?

Yeah, I accidently reseted the bios to default (thought that it would be as normal then) but apparently the default option is not the one my computer had when i bought it so i got the multiplier to 166mhz from 100mhz as i think it should be. Do you think my bus speed changed back to be different aswell? (my knowledge isnt that good so I actually don't have a clue what bus speed does), cause now its back to 2700 mhz as (or 2,17ghz depends on how you count it) it shud be. I have an Amd Athlon 2700+ btw.

    Thanks for all the help
