So, thanks to the article you linked mirage, and this article, I have learned that it's actually 512mb from your main ram and 128mb of DDR3 at the same time...or something.

Under budget, and its going to game pretty well. Your in territory where adding another card in crossfire is a reasonable upgrade later on. Triple core chip is unlock able to quad if you wish and word on the street is it overclocks fairly well. You might want to add an after market heatsink with the leftover cash.

If you pull out the rebates you land closer to $570 or so.

This is what I'm looking at right now: http://i.imgur.com/0lq0l.png. It comes out to $450.

The problem is that I neglected to include the price of a monitor and keyboard up when I mentioned the $600 price limit. The other problem being that I really would like to have a working computer as fast as possible.

Naturally, i'll be looking over what you posted, and looking for other options as well. I've never done this before, and it's very overwhelming. I've spent most of today doing research just to understand what a quarter of the acronyms and words mean, and I'm still fairly confused.

The graphics card is definitely the worst part. Not knowing anything about them means that I keep having to rely on second or third hand information, comparing lists of cards from different websites with prices, etc. etc. I just looked up Radeon HD 4650 on newegg under the reccomendation of a Tom's Hardware article, and was confronted with dozens of cards. I always thought that when they said something like "Radeon HD 4650" that it was a specific model of card that ATI makes, not a type of card.

In closing, i'm confused as hell. Happily, I have lots of time to figure this all out over the next month or-what-have-you. I think I shall sleep on this and look at it again tommorow.

For the longest time I have been wanting to do a complete build video. There are some on youtube, a few are pretty good.
