Besides... I would actually prefer that a large portion of the 8-16 audience was excluded from... well.. frankly everything I ever do...

so yea, that doesn't bother me

good point, all the that audience is usually excluded from these games because they are unwilling to pay monthly. I find that most of the time i have a great experience because of this.

lol, didn't consider that, but it's true - if we're cutting out the majority of the 8-16 audience, it does improve overall game play.

This is not to say all 8-16 are immature, and that every one 16+ aren't, 'cause we all know that so isn't true.

Not to mention, it would scare me to think of an 8yr old spending the amount of time that I do playing a MMO obsessively. It's just unhealthy. *returns to FFXI*

they should not charge for the game if they're gonna charge a monthly fee for it. like the cell phone companies do. why am I gonna pay $50 for a game and then pay each month? I think they'd get a lot more people hooked if they threw the game in with like a 1 year contract or something like that. save the money on the manufacturing costs by making it downloadable.

well they will doubtless include a free month with the purchase of the game, but think of it this way

the initial fee (when you buy it out of the store) covers printing/packaging (minimal) and gives blizzard some hard earned cash. i can understand your suggestion for a game that is download only, but they get the game out to many more people by just plopping it down in stores. i know it may not seem like it, but a lot of people that play these games still aren't in the know about them until they find them in the store.

the monthly fee i would guess goes ENTIRELY to paying full-time staffers and server up-keep costs. i mean this is some expensive stuff they're doing

I heard that they had 25 ppl on the opening Cinematics. 25*8 hours a day*hourly wage=A LOT.

And that is JUST on the cinematics team. That isn't including all of the programmers and others working on the game itself. They have been working on this game for over 4 years. That is a lot of money to recoup and the initial charges help to pay for that. The odds are that initial charges won't cover 4 years worth of work hence the reason they keep charging per month. Of course the main reason they charge per month is so that they can maintain a live staff and the servers. That and believe it or not most companies don't make games for the sole purpose of entertaining you. It is a business and they want to make money at it. Good companies like Blizzard do try to entertain as much as possible though so their money is well earned and I have no problem forking it over.

It is not official yet but the buzz right now is that the beta will start this Monday, March 15. If I remember correctly they will be choosing 10,000 applicants from the 400,000 some that signed up for this first phase of beta. The odds are actually a little better than that though since they count the Koreans separate since they get a different beta test or something. Either way I am crossing my fingers that I get in. A few fan sites are also going to be holding contest to get into the beta so incase you miss the first phase you can have a second chance. For more information visit www.worldofwar.net.

Man this game ownz. There is already 500k pre-orders on this, and expected 1.5 million players. This is gonna own sony. Then its gonna hang it's MMORPGs by it's feet on a tree. Then it is going to procede to beat the **** out of it with a 2 x 4.

WoW OWNZ! nothing beats the feeling you get when your bashing a night elf's head in with an orc with a really big axe. -.-

And the nurfs shall rain from the heavens and the world will become hell. Just like every other MMO out.

Though I still bet it does rock, when my roomate gets it, I'll have to see if I can use his account to check it out.
