RAM Upgrade - No Video??

I'm trying you upgrade my Dell Precision 380 PC from 2GB to 4GB so as to allow use of a CAD system.

According to a "crucial" scan, I currently have:

8192MB Max. Memory capacity
2GB Installed (4x512MB)
No empty slots
4 total slots
Duel Channel Support: No
CPU - GenuineIntel
CPU Family: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00Ghz Model 4, Stepping 7
CPU Speed: 2992 MHz

Display Adaptor is Nvidia Quadro FX 3450/4000 SDI

The scan says I could go up to 8 GB, but the 32 bit processor will only in the high 3s, so I tried to go to 4GB (4x1GB) [Crucial 1GB 240-Pin DIMM 128Mx64 DDR2 PC2-5300 UNBUFF]

When I power up, the Dell flash screen flashes twice, then goes dark.

The system lights on the front of the tower cycle & recycle, but no video.

I reinstalled the 512MBs, and all works properly.

Can anyone point me to the problem, and/or solution??

What's the possibility that your new stuff requires more vdmm than the original??? Also by any chance have you worked with the bios???? For S & Gs reset the CMOS and go into the bios (if one can  with a dell) and at a minimum set the vdmm at what the factory has on the sticker.

Other than that, I'll leave it up to the experts. ;)

I got this resolved. It turned out one of the RAM sticks was defective.

    Too obvious!
