Sometimes PC Freezes.Why?

edited February 2010 in Hardware
I have :
1)Radeon 4850
2)Mainboard ASUS
3)Core 2 Quad
4) 700 watt power supply
5) 4 GB RAM (Dual channel)
6) Windows XP (Pro)

Problem :
- Sometimes when i play games my pc crashes(freezes) and music continues
like a beep. The pc not restart.I must do it manually.
- When i connect my external hard disk and i transfer data from external sometimes happens the same as before.
- My last problem it happens yesterday with a friend's external hard disk(external power). When I plugged the external drive my screen started to flicker.

It could be a number of things but my money is your PSU. It seems to happen when your system is under load. ie 3d Rendering, pluggin in external drives (assuming they draw power from your PC and dont have an external power supply. Could be your MB, memory or GPU.

I tried the prime (CPU tester) and at the same time the benchmark 06 and everything works just fine for 4 hours

Try memtest86. If it shows problems with the RAM, then you have an easy solution (replace the RAM) if it doesn't show any ram errors after running memtest86, then you can move on to more ocmplex issues.

Run HWMon while primeing and watch to see if there are any major voltage drops.
