Help me please

I have a compaq computer with windows xp home edition sp3 that i need to completely wipe and restore. I have an e-machines restore disc and i've heard rumors that it will work. Is there any other way to wipe my computer without a restore disc? if so how? if not will the restore disc i have work? or should i just buy a new hard drive/computer?

You can't use emachine restore disk to get your compaq up and running and activate the xp key it won't work.

Kryyst is right, each restore disk is configured to work only with a very specific hardware set-up, so they don't transfer between computers unless they are the same model.

What you do need is your valid Windows Key (probably on a sticker on the bottom or side of your computer, if you bought it assembled) and a copy of the XP Home OEM disc. If you don't have this disc you might ask around if someone has one you could borrow.
