This incompetence is pathetic. So is Moto's disregard for its present customers and former fans. Basic training in management and customer relations tells you that people crave info. Even in a crisis where there's nothing that can be done, rational human beings want and deserve accurate info. That’s the case for medical patients, airline passengers, people waiting in line or tech enthusiasts waiting for a new release. The community would be more understanding if Moto didn't treat them like children by telling them "We'll be there in a minute," when hours come and go. Moto finds itself over-promising and under-delivering. When product managers don't know their asses from their elbows, there's incompetence at higher levels. MS learned the hard way then got it right with Windows 7 press releases. Moto should have said "Android 2.1 due 2011." Then, when it released sooner, everyone would be happy. Instead, Moto allowed a Jan 22 rumor build unchecked. Next, they themselves promised Feb 12 only to say "Psych!" Treating a tech fan base with dismissiveness builds the kind of loyalty AT&T enjoys. Moto's not the only game in town. While we still have a competitive market based economy, consumers can bail and give their money to a company that treats them well. That will end when there’s a single provider for everything, but Moto’s in no danger of becoming a monopoly. Its track record of giving customers what they want is obvious when you consider that the Razr was its last hit. Looks like a lot of lessons have failed to make an impact.
This doesn't actually say that the OTA isn't going to be released when they said it was. He was referring to the release notes being made public too early. I'm still expecting the update by the end of this week (2 more days) as Motorola hasn't given me any other reason not to believe it will be so.
Where is the thread does motorola actually say it is delayed? Their wording is that it is coming soon. Soon can mean anything. I tried looking through the thread and motorola did not say anything definitive other than they posted the release notes too soon. I'm assuming that they don't post the release notes until the update is actually out.
I am keeping my hopes up that an update will start to roll out tonight at 12am like every other one has. But this is confusing they never said that 2.1 was actually delayed just that the details of what 2.1 will include was premature so I am keeping my hopes up. I do feel that this is VERY BAD PR for Motorola which is already damaged from its past so I don't think it would be a good thing to not send out an update after they announced they would to the public. I for one have NEVER seen this happen at all and also never heard of a company who has no customer support. Thats why I still like RIM but I love my droid
Jk's rant is pathetic. Just chill out and it will be released when its good and ready.
