Athlon 64 too expensive says India

edited January 2004 in Science & Tech
It has been reported that resellers in Mumbai are failing to sell many Athlon 64 CPU's.

[blockquote]It quotes one reseller as saying that while he's had a lot of interest in the Athlon 64, he hasn't sold on eyet because the price of the chips are too high.

AMD would need to drop prices of the processors to sell them in India, the reseller is quoted as saying.

Another reseller claims margins are too high on the chip, but AMD India says that a scheme whereby people can bypass dealers and buy the chips direct is fair.

yes this is true, even in malaysia where the chips are actually manufactured.. the price differences for the a64 and barton are very high

AMD Athlon XP Barton 2500+ RM345
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (512 cache) RM920
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (1mb cache) RM1300

That's not really a valid comparison - The Barton 2500+ here is around $90, while the A64 3000+ is something like $230 - but the Barton 3000+ is around $200 as well, so AMD isn't ripping folks off on the A64 or anything...
