    Any credibility to the rumors that the ION2 is outperformed by the original ION?

    Hard to say. ION 2 for netbooks has 8 shaders, whereas ION 1 had 16. ION 1 was its own chipset, so it supported 3-4GB of memory, whereas ION 2 is just a GPU and is therefore limited to 2GB by the Intel chipset. ION 1 is DirectX 10, whereas ION 2 is DirectX 10.1, indicating a much newer core architecture.

    On paper, it's a mixed bag. If I had to speculate, though, I'd say ION 2 is probably faster.

    I think the primary goal in engineering was to continue to extend battery life while not making huge compromises in performance.

    Sue this Intel. Here, no license necessary and Atom is still more attractive with Nvidia ... in an ingenious way.
