Windows Media Player has encountered a problem....

My Windows Media Player has gotten a problem lately. I've got lots of downloaded videos on my PC, and when clicking through some of them to find certain points, it'll freeze and pop up the screen that says WMP has a problem and needs to close. Most of the videos work fine. Nothing has been changed in any of the videos.
This is very frustrating. These are videos that have played fine in the past, I could click back or forth or wherever in them with no problems. Sometimes if I start a video playing and give it a few seconds, I can then click ahead in it, but I never had to do that before.
My WMP version is 9.0.0.4503. Unlike IE, it doesn't need to be upgraded, I like the layout and look of this version. Not so much for newer versions.
