    Get a flash.

    The D5000 has a built in flash. In some scenes I don't use the flash.

    Please try not to use your built-in flash.. I hate built in flashes. lol ;)

    Much nicer and more controllable light from a flashgun.

    That first shot is sweet. Move back like 20 feet so you get the full reflection of the trees in the water, wait until the sun is out of the shot but there is a decent amount of light out and shoot it in HDR. That would be great.

    Well that was the best I could do at the time I was on the waters edge. the lens I was using the nikkor afs 18-55mm. Besides algae wouldn't look good in the pic.
