Godaddy Domain and Outlook 07

I am not an outlook expert but a family member asked me a set up his Godaddy email account with outlook on this laptop. I set it up IMAP using all the recomended ports and settings per Godaddy's support site.
At his house he said the responsiveness of outlook is very slow and when he deletes emails, outlook puts a slash through it but it doesnt actually delete for a while.
I have read that IMAP is just slower than POP3 due to the redundancy with the hoste server but i dont think godaddy supports POP3(not sure on that). Also he has satalite internet which is fairly slow and i think that might have a roll in the lag with outlook.
I tried to explain this to him and he said he will just take it to a pc shop to get it looked at. I am afraid he is going to take it in and pay for nothing.
Do i have a fair understanding of how this should be set up and did i set this up correctly or is there a better way to do it?
THANKS

There is nothing a "PC checkup" will do to fix this. It sounds like you have it setup just right. I use IMAP to the OCZ server here with Outlook 2003.
Alternatively if he's using imap so that emails aren't pulled off his webmail onto his local machine I would suggest the following solution. Create a gmail account. Have gmail pop into his godaddy account. Then he can pop his gmail account through outlook and it will leave his emails on his gmail account as well as his desktop. He then just creates his smtp to go through his godaddy account if that's what he wants.
