Looks great, but can get boring. The first twenty hours or so are incredibly linear. I've put about ten hours into it, but I haven't touched it for a week.

It's basically a movie you use your controller for occasionally. I'll probably pick it up again in the coming weeks, but don't expect the level of complexity you may be used to.

I watched Bandrik play it at ICSP, I am not into that type of game, but watching was actually a lot of fun, kept my interest.

    It's very pretty;)

I'm about 40 hours into it and like Cyclonite said the first 20 hours or so are very straight forward, "Run here, fight stuff, run some more, boss fight, repeat."

After the first 20 hours it's still kind of the same run here, kill stuff, run some more type thing but it's more open. You can go back to places and do some side mission stuff.

It's not boring, just not the same Final Fantasy everyone knows and loves(for the most part).

The battle system is, I don't want to say bad, but it isn't at a Final Fantasy caliber in my opinion. I've gone through the entire game on auto-chain/attack/heal etc. It's just frustratingly difficult to micromanage your attack chains and your entire parties paradigm. The entire battle depends entirely on when and how you change your paradigms. Putting in my own attack chains slows down my ability to focus on how my party is doing, how the enemies stagger bar and health bar look, and any and all status ailments on enemies and party members alike. You have to keep up with all that plus a little more to know what paradigm shift is needed and when it needs to be executed.

As a side note I can't relate to the characters at all. Which is the most important thing in any game/movie/book. The FF series has always had good characters in the past. Even with the first three games when there were no named protagonist I could still relate to what a fighter or a thief or mage would be like, and what they might say.

I'm not saying that this is a bad game, but it certainly isn't what I've come to expect from Square-Enix and especially not from the FF series.

I have been playing for 31hours now and I enjoy it. I find that mastering your battle team is importland and having the right paradigm at the start of the battle can dertermine if you win or die. And yes it is sort of like you are on a track for the first 20 or so hours and you can only go one way ( with a few short off shoots ).
It is an extreamly nice looking game, the cut scenes are amazing and the game play is pretty damn good as well
