Well now that I have your attention....Last saturday my wife took my truck to her sisters house to help here move a couch and some other stuff to there new house. She called me and asked if I wanted a couple of old "harddrives" naturally I said yes. I figured a couple of old 3 or 8 gig ata 66whatevers. So she gets home and I go out to the truck to get the harddrives and find 2 Compaq Presario Desktops ( Wife thinks the big box thingy is the harddrive :rolleyes2 ) So my first thought is "More folding Power" So I start checking model number and it seems the 5000 is a celeron 667 that does have SSE and the micro atx 5020 I am not sure. I have not turned them on yet. No spare monitor, will have one tonight.
So anyway I have questions concerning networking, processors, and OS's. So to keep it all together I posted it here. The plan is that they Fold.( and that's all)
Networking
My Lan is off a 4 port router. allports currently used. The 5000 has 2 network cards in it and the 5020 has only 1. If I cannot run 1 off the other do I need a switch or a hub ?
Os's
which OS works best to fold is 98se good enough ? will 98se share an internet connection ( 2 nic )
Processors
Does anybody know of a way to search Compaqs site by serial number? I can find no Model number on the 5020. But the 5020 family can have anything from a 900duron to a 1.2 tbrd.
Monitors
My neighbor has an old monitor that I will snag tonight. I will hook them up one at a time to see what they are and have on them and how they fold. If they both fold "good enough" How do I use one monitor for 2 comps. Or do I even need a monitor hooked up? I will monitor progress through EMIII form my rig.

So many question
Your thoughts and comments are welcomed

TIA

Scott
Ps alot of these question may be premature. I have not even turned them on yet. I hope they boot!

IMHO you should take out the extra NIC from the 5000 and put it in the 5020 (if it's faster). Connect the 5000 to the 5020. Use Windows 2K and find out where you can connect the other NIC to. Maybe get an extra NIC card for one of the others PC's connected or get a hub/switch with more ports.

    From what I got from Compaq's website, the 5020 is a Celeron 300 with a 8G HDD and 64MB of RAM. (http://www.compaq.com/athome/support/msgs/4951/)

You can cascade the connections, w2k or xp will make it easier.
Buy a KVM switch and let the two share a monitor. There are some now fo $50 with integral cables. Mine is called iView and it supports switching on keyboard command.

See if you can open them and get some mobo serial numbers. That will lead you to better info.
