Really have shot the domestic tranquility this time!! Due to the bay and not bidding “low enough” I now own

G. Skill F3-12800CL7D- 2GBPI x 2 & AMD PII X4 955 3.2 GHz C2

Which leaves me needing an AM3 mATX mobo and it would be going into this build

CASE: Ultra MX6
PSU: OCZ OCZ700MXSP
MOBO: ??????????????????
CPU: AMD PII X4 955 C2
HSF: Zalman CNPS8700-NT
GPU: XFX GTX 260-216 Black Edition
MEMORY: F3-12800CL7D- 2GBPI (2 x 1024) x 2
HDD: WD Raptor X, 150GB

I’ve narrowed it down to two boards:

Biostar TA785G3HD (only one with 4 dimm slots) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138181 @ $80 shipped
( http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/t-series/content.php?S_ID=458 )

MSI 785GM-E65 (picked over the -E51 because of mosfet cooler) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130233&Tpk=MSI%20785GM-E65 @ $90 shipped
( http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=prodmbspec&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=1864 )

Originally the decision was a bit easier as the Biostar wasn’t FS so the MSI was like only $2 – 3 more. Soooooooooooo any comments???

MSI is a better company than Biostar by a long shot, but neither of them are especially stellar.

I would check the this ASUS board too; it is even more affordable. Its VRM does not have cooling but it does not really need. I have two M4A77Ds with the same VRM design running X3 (3.7 Ghz) and X4 (3.6 GHz) overclocked Phenom II cpus; VRMs do not heat that high to need a heatsink. It has full solid capacitors too, at a better price. I had very good experience with 6-7 ASUS motherboards. I am still using 3 of them. The other is a budget P5Q-SE-PLUS running a Q9550 at 4GHz (467FSB) beautifully. That socket 775 board does not have VRM heatsinks but it has an 8-phase VRM.

Biostar has been my mobo of choice as I had good luck from 939 up and Asus has been the funk! ;D Right now though the campion pain in the ars goes to XFX.

I'll give it a thought as with shipping it sits at 86.....right there with the Biostar.

Got a week to give it some thought. :thumbup

I frequently read about Biostar motherboards, especially their T series, in many overclocking forums. I was also asking about them in another thread recently but I did not get any feedback. Everyone's opinion is based on their perception and experience. There were horror stories about ASUS boards (M2N32?) which you might have experienced as well. All of my ASUS boards behaved well, P4G8X (still running since five+ years, 24/7), P4P800VM (sold), P5P800SE (sold), P5QSE PLUS, 2xM4A77D, maybe a couple more which I can't remember.

By the looks of your list it could very well be the difference between intel & amd along with the associated chip sets!

Waiting for the wife to leave before ordering! ;D 60 - 40 MSI vs Biostar, so not totally sure. For the build the MSI is closer "look wise" that I'm after.....
