Flake of glass or plastic INSIDE my EF 50mm f/1.4

The wonderful gift that you guys got me for Expo last year has a major problem. There's a flake of glass or plastic inside the lens. It hasn't been dropped or jarred or anything. Today I was putting it on to take a photo and I noticed it. At first I thought it was on the optics, so I cleaned them thoroughly but no, there it still was, clear as a bell. It's not exactly small either. It's about 2mmx1mm in a triangular shape, and when magnified it makes a major impact on the image.
I tried gently shaking the lens to see if I could knock it off the optics, but it's firmly stuck due to static or whatever.
The lens is still under warranty (it's close, though), so I'm sending it back to Canon.
Anybody else ever have any weird issues like this?

Sucks man. Quite surprising coming from a Canon lens, I understand them to have rigid quality control on their glass.
And I saw in a tweet that you'll have to pay shipping? What a mess.
I think I'll need a copy of the proof of purchase, I didn't see it in the box.
Did you buy it online?
Thanks again, Shwaiples
