Hard drive space disappearing!

The C drive on my main PC has been losing hard drive space in the last month or 2. Ever since about the time I started multi GPU folding, I started getting warnings that my 30 GB boot partition was running out of space.

So I cleared out a few GB worth of space and all was well for a month or so, now it's filled up again!

I cleared the temporary internet files last night and got about 300 MB back, and now again today it has lost over 100 MB of that free space and is flashing the low disk space warnings again.

Any idea of what I can do or where to look for a problem and solution?

One thing worth knocking out right now: it's not Folding@Home, so don't go uninstalling that because you misguidedly think it might be.

I remember when I had this exact same issue: Is your Steam library growing? There was just a TF2 update that could explain the recent 100MB jump.

windirstat will show you a graphical representation of folder size. use it to see where your space is going.

Hard drive space, who REALLY NEEDS it? I still have my old 30GB Quantum Fireball, in May it'll be 9 years old and it does everything I need it to, which is to load windows and Office and play the occasional game.

Yes, there are people who really DO more hard drive space, but there are many people who have a ton of space and don't need it. You've seen them on forums. They are suckers for all the slick marketing and tv ads. I see people all the time talking about their gigabytes, and I know very well they aren't storing any important files. Some of them don't even have jobs. Or kids, or anything else of significant importance in their lives that necessitates large hard drive space.

It annoys me to see so many people coming onto the forum to get more hard drive space.

People need to think for themselves more and don't let Windows tell you how much space you need to store programs, games, files and pictures.

These will take up a considerable amount of space.

Do you have a hibernation file that you don't use on C:\ taking up space? If so disable hibernation.

How large is your page file? I don't think a folding system needs a large page file.

How many restore points are you storing? If you are not experiencing troubles all restore points but the most recent can be removed.

This is on my main PC, not the dedicated folding PC.

I'll look at the restore points and my Steam library for TF2.

Thrax, your post looks an awful lot like a post I recently posted in the tech section. Why is that? :)

You know what would tell you where most of your space was used? Windirstat.

Next time you get low disk warning, you can use Ccleaner and see what is filling up your disk space. Ccleaner is on every computer I have.
