Compaq Laptop nx9010 fan, need to verify issue

edited April 2010 in Hardware
I have a HP Compaq NX9010 that has a fan that seems it's always on and blowing out hot air through the side. I think the fan needs replacing but I'm not sure, I just wanted to check if it could be the fan or something else. And in the given case that it was the fan, where I could possibly get one for replacement. Thanks!

If the fan is always on and blowing hot air, it means it's working. What it means is your heatsink is probably clogged, so it's not working as efficiently as it should. Get a can of compressed air duster and blow the hell out of the gratings you find in the laptop, try to get all the dust out of there.

If your fan needed replacement, your computer wouldn't be blowing hot air at all, and you'd be shutting down spontaneously all the time because it couldn't get rid of the heat. The fan's working as hard as it can right now to keep your chips cool; if you blow out the heatsinks, it should run cooler and the fan should spin down more often.
