You'll be able to connect to the server, but your connection wont be able to keep up with any gameplay. I wouldn't bother.

I think it's recommended that you have a broadband connection. Either that or it's a minimum requirement now.

Really? My cousin used to play it on his dial up about 2 or so years ago.

They dropped it possibly around the time of WotLK's release.
Mind you, now that I've rechecked the specs, 26k has never been supported. Minimum on the box for the first game is 56k

    hmm.. strange.

This sucks because the only form of high speed I can get comes from 3G sticks (in my case, the telus one). Unfortunately, the subdivision I live in has a big dip in the landscape where the trees around it are very tall and almost no form of high speed can reliably work there. Guess where my house is..

Oh well, im going to be living in the city about a year or so from now anyways so i guess ill just have to wait a little longer.. crap..

    Are you just starting?
If so, it's worth waiting to start anyway. Cataclysm is hitting in a few months (as I'm sure you're aware if you're looking into the game) and there's honestly no point starting now due to that.

I played a bit on my friends computer (trial account) and i thought it was a pretty addictive game. Yes I was aware that cataclysm is coming out, it would be best to at least wait untill that comes out. Too bad though, I like MMOs and I outgrew crap like Runescape years ago.

26K internet on WoW = LAG. You'll lag your party too if you're doing a 5 man or raid.

When I go to buy a house someday, I'll be concerned with things like does it have a nice big garage and a flat driveway for me to do my car work and hold several cars easily? What sort of high speed internet is available? And THEN I'll look at the rest of the house.

I know someone whose parents live in a development of million+ dollar houses. It's built on the side of a mountain, and cell phone reception is terrible. You have to drive up to the top of the hill to make a phone call without dropping the call 5 times.

Trust me, its equally as bad when you live in a very low area too. The 3G mobile internet sticks are the only thing that can reach us and they are very touchy. They drop out too often to be used for gaming and even browsing gets annoying. Im not at all kidding when I say that our neighbor who lives like maybe 20 metres away from our house can get a decent highspeed. We are right in the wrong spot.

I remember reading a story several years ago about a guy whose local ISP offered high speed wireless, which was a big deal at the time. But a church or something was blocking the line of sight from his house to the wireless antenna of the ISP.

He built a 60 foot tower, put his receiver on top, and got a good connection. The story had photos and everything.

yea, we thought about that, but 1. how much would that cost? 2. how much trouble would you go through maintaining it 3. Is it worth it if im only going to use it until a year or so when I move out?

I used to play on 56kb dialup with Wow. It's largely do-able, but you can't do any PVP or end-game content (raids, or even big groups). And that was on 56k. I wouldn't even try it on 26k.

If you really want to give it a go, grab the patches from a friend, then get a free 15-day WoW trial account and see how bad it is.
