When do I make the partition?

I am getting ready to install Windows 7. I am running XP now and my hard drive is not partitioned. I want to put 7 on a 30gb partition. My question is, if I do a Custom install w/7 does it give me the option to create a partition or do I need to format and partition my hard drive prior to my install?

    You need to format and partition prior to installation.

    But inside the installer, it will allow you to partition and format it just before writing files.

    Windows 7 has built in partitioning and will format too.
