outlook express won't open

edited May 2010 in Science & Tech
Hi everyone,

I was compacting my overly-stuffed outlook express folders the other day when the programme froze. When I had restarted the computer I got the following two error messages one after the other

Outlook Express could not be started. The application was unable to open the Outlook Epress message store. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full. Contact Microsoft support for further assistance. (0x800c013B)
Outlook Express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be initialized. Outlook Express may not be installed correctly<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Since then I haven't been able to open outlook express - though I still have access to new incoming messages through my web-browser, which also has some of my sent mail. But at the moment I don't have access to any of my old inbox mail. I'm pretty sure there's enough memory on my computer. Does anyone know what I can do to retrieve outlook?

Thanks - mattff

How much harddrive space do you have left? Right click on your C: drive and look at the properties.

Yeah you should have enough harddrive space. Sounds like your mail folders are corrupted then. I take it you've tried rebooting the computer and trying again?

There's no real repair tool for outlook express, there are some 3rd party offerings but I have no experience with them since I've never needed to resort to them.

Here's a great guide on how to fix it.
